Famous Quotes

Received by e-mail yesterday (credit goes to EEB):

What the American people have seen is this incredible disparity in which those people who had cars and money got out, and those people who were impoverished drowned.
-- Ted Kennedy on Hurricane Katrina

Ditto.
-- Mary Jo Kopechne

It's official. I spoke with my aunt last night and they lost everything. They're gonna have to rebuild. What a bummer. They lived in Lakeview, and it was under about 12 feet of water at least.

Oooooh. Cheap shot. (I Mary-Joed myself about a month ago. Cheap shot.)

I don't get this. What Ted Kennedy apparently did in the Mary Jo incident was an outrageous act of personal irresponsibility, made all the more reprehensible by the fact that his wealth immunized him from the consequences most of us would have to face. But it doesn't take away from the validity of his statements regarding the institutional racism and shocking poverty that are still pervasive in our society today. The enormity of what was revealed by Katrina dwarfs the tragic mistake Kennedy made as a young man.

Who will speak out, if our past lives must be totally pure? And if a sinner speaks truth, shall he be ignored?

Well, I guess they told you!

Stephen - I'm so sorry for your aunt. As bad as it's been here in Beaumont, I can't imagine what the people in New Orleans are still going through.

Old Horsetail - I know. I couldn't help myself.

Larry - I'm not even sure if it's an actual quote. I have a sick sense of humor and I thought it was funny. Very wrong, but funny.

Everything you say in your comment is correct and they are facts of which I am well aware. However, it didn't stop me from enjoying a totally inappropriate joke and sharing it with the class.

Lorna - I definitely struck a nerve didn't I?

Hey, I wonder if Larry's rant is the emotional outburst mentioned in my previous horoscope post. Hmmmmm.....

Was I ranting?

Sorry.

Larry - No need to apologize. You were speaking from the heart and everything you said was true. (By the way, my word verification for this comment is "ilhug", so this hugs for you.) :)
