Ava and Oakley on The Weather Channel website
My mom sent the picture I took of Ava and Oakley looking out their window to The Weather Channel website and they published it. Here's the story as it is on their website...

Ava's pet Oakley is very afraid of thunderstorms. As they look at the approaching storm, Ava decides to comfort poor Oakley. Ava is 2 years old and they have been very close since her birth.

Beaumont Emergency Animal Hospital
Yesterday evening, I gave Oakley his monthly flea treatment. I usually use Adam's flea products, but the only brand available at CVS was Sergeant's Gold Flea and Tick squeeze-on application.
After about three hours, Oakley started acting funny. He got very restless, so I took him outside. As soon as we got outside, he threw up. When we got in the house, he kept acting strange (very jittery, sensitive to noise, still throwing up). I watched him for a while and got online to Google reactions to Sergeant's Gold products.
If you do a Google of Sergeant's Gold products, it will scare you to death. Since Oakley wasn't displaying any of the more severe reactions, I bathed him in dishwashing liquid like the websites recommended and continued to watch him for another hour or so and he seemed to be calming down a bit. However, around 12:30 a.m. he started crying which he never does.
Fortunately, Beaumont has a 24-hour emergency animal clinic which I knew about through friends. I brought Oakley in and, as I had been told by others who have had to use the clinic, everyone there was terrific.
They told me to check with my vet about flea medications and they told me they hate Sergeants and Hartz flea medications because they see so many animals with complications from those brands.
They gave Oakley a cortisone shot and said he had a pretty bad skin reaction to a chemical in the Sergeant's Gold. It's 1:44 a.m. now and I'm waiting for the sedative to kick in so he'll settle down and we can go to sleep. Thank God, the skin reaction was his only complication.
To get to the clinic, take the 4th Street exit off of Cardinal Drive and it's on the northbound feeder road of the highway. I hope you never need them.

8:00 a.m.UPDATE:
Oakley finally settled down about 3:30 a.m., but even after he fell asleep, the sedative they gave him at the animal clinic made him sleep so hard, I thought he wasn't breathing all night and kept poking him to make him move. He seems to be fine this morning and I’m going to go check on him at lunch. His back where I put the chemical still seems to be bothering him a bit.
11:00 a.m. UPDATE:
All appears to be well. I gave Oakley a little water and a dog biscuit and he kept both down and he's resting well with no fidgeting.

I don't usually floss there
Sometimes inspiration for a new purchase comes from an unexpected source. This morning as I was walking the dog, he stopped to take his regular morning poop. Instead of finishing, however, he started to do the butt-scoot-boogie across the grass. Upon further inspection, I realized the mint flavored dental floss he had evidently eaten out of my bathroom waste basket wasn’t going to come out on its own.

As I was pulling the crap encrusted dental floss out of Oakley’s ass, I thought, “You know what you need, Laurie? A covered waste basket for the bathroom.”
My latest purchase. Money well spent.

Oakley as a Puppy
Step Away From the Television
Until my son and his family sell their house and get settled into a place here in Beaumont, I have custody of their HDTV and their dog.

My old television was twenty years old. No exaggeration. It looked something like this...

I had no idea what a difference it would make to watch television on a huge (by my standards) 42 inch high definition television as opposed to a 26 inch old timey television.

Every night, the grand-fabulous puppy and I lay on the couch hypnotized by all of the high definition wonderfulness. I watch things I don't even care about just because it's all so amazing.

So, Carly keeps asking me how far along I've gotten in Guitar Hero,

I've had my most recent Netflix movies two weeks and still haven't watched them,

Donna is pissed because I've only read two chapters of Twilight,

I'm paying $30 a month to a gym that I haven't seen the inside of for weeks and...

...my blog posts are more and more reliant on pictures than on writing.

Add YOUR Best Friend to Dogster
There's even a place to indicate if your friend is "no longer with us." What a nice little memorial for a puppy who has gone to doggy heaven.

Toxic Poop
My son and daughter-in-law have a beautiful Jack Russell Terrier mix dog. He's about 8 months old and still somewhat in the puppy stage. When Cory and Jamie came in Friday night, we were busy bustling around bringing in bags and visiting and hugging and running around the house all talking at once.
None of us were paying attention to Oakley who, giving him the benefit of the doubt, I'm sure was trying to tell us he desperately needed to take a huge dump. We paid dearly for our inattentiveness. As Cory was leaving to go out and bring in one last batch of stuff from his truck, we heard him say, "Oakley, what did you do?" Jamie and I looked up and Cory looked at us and said, "He crapped by the door!" To Oakley's credit, he did do it right in front of the door. This is not a large dog and I still can't figure out how all of that came out of that tiny ass.
After Cory scolded him and took him outside, he came back in to clean it up. As he opened the door to come back in the house, the draft from opening and closing the front door forced the odor from the doggy dump further into the house. That's when everyone sprung into action. Suddenly, we were all grabbing our mouths and moaning and groaning like food poison victims.
Jamie ran upstairs to get the air freshener out of the bathroom and I ran to the laundry room to grab a can of Lysol. We sprayed and sprayed but the smell just would not go away. Cory picked up their empty Wendy's Hamburger bag from dinner on the road and put the offensive mass into the bag. As he got close to the kitchen garbage can, I yelled, "Don't put it in there!" I am not a yeller. I never yell...ever. Cory had no intention of putting the bag of doggy doo in the garbage can but I had panicked. He looked at me like I had lost my mind which was partly true.
The way we were all acting and running around spraying Febreze and Lysol, you would have thought Cory was carrying anthrax around in that bag. I told him, "Grab (gag) a plastic garbage (gag) bag and put (gag, gag, gag) the Wendy's bag (gaaaaaaaag) in the plastic kitchen garbage bag (gag) then put it in a big garbage bag, " all the while still spraying Lysol and holding my hand over my mouth and nose.
That was two days ago and, I swear I can still conjure up that smell from memory. And, people ask me why I don't have (gag) pets.
