Dad Update, Ghost Hunters and Rock Band

Dad Update
Dad ran fever again last night and today. Mom's meeting with the doctors and the patient liaison tomorrow. She's hoping they'll either put an oncologist on his care or send him home so he can restart his chemo. It the fever is caused by the lymphoma, we're hoping he can come home soon and begin treatment again.

Ghost Hunters
New Ghost Hunters tonight. Can't wait.

Rock Band
My Rock Band 2 came in tonight. I can use my Guitar Hero III guitar with it, by the way. The Rock Band guitar looks very cool, but wasn't in the mood to put everything together tonight. So, I tried with my Guitar Hero guitar and it worked fine. So far, I like the Guitar Hero graphics better, but the actual "playing" seems more intuitive to me on Rock Band than on Guitar Hero. Can't wait to play with a whole "band."

Bye Bye Rabbit Ears

On October 20, 2005, the Digital Transmission and Public Safety Act was passed requiring all full power television stations to cease analog broadcasting by midnight February 17, 2009. I'm not sure what any of this has to do with public safety, but that's the name of the act.

Beginning January 1, 2008 people could begin requesting the above $40 coupon to help defray the cost of a converter box which will enable analog televisions to receive a digital signal. For a year, we've been bombarded by television ads advising us of the change.

Not surprisingly the government ran out of money before everyone who needed a converter box coupon got one. Also, not surprisingly people who have had a year to get a coupon and who have waited until six weeks before they lose their television signal to try to get one are complaining.

Those people are calling the government shortsighted and unprepared. I'm calling those people dumbasses.

To Wii or Not to Wii

I'm thinking about spending the money I usually spend every year for a gym membership that I end up not using after three months on a Wii game console. I understand it comes with the sports package.

Does anyone feel like they get pretty good exercise using the Wii? Also, for exercise purposes, do you recommend one of the dance game titles or Wii Fit? What other games are offered that require a lot of movement?

Step Away From the Television

Until my son and his family sell their house and get settled into a place here in Beaumont, I have custody of their HDTV and their dog.

My old television was twenty years old. No exaggeration. It looked something like this...

I had no idea what a difference it would make to watch television on a huge (by my standards) 42 inch high definition television as opposed to a 26 inch old timey television.

Every night, the grand-fabulous puppy and I lay on the couch hypnotized by all of the high definition wonderfulness. I watch things I don't even care about just because it's all so amazing.

So, Carly keeps asking me how far along I've gotten in Guitar Hero,

I've had my most recent Netflix movies two weeks and still haven't watched them,

Donna is pissed because I've only read two chapters of Twilight,

I'm paying $30 a month to a gym that I haven't seen the inside of for weeks and...

...my blog posts are more and more reliant on pictures than on writing.

Grandma Honey...Rock Star

Well, I'm not a rock star, yet. I'm more of a pebble starlet. Guitar Hero on Tour for Nintendo DS went on sale June 22, 2008 and I knew if I was ever in the vicinity of Best Buy I wouldn't be able to resist popping in and buying one. I had to pass Best Buy twice yesterday afternoon, so we all know what happened. I also bought a "leather" case. Rock and roll!!

I'm not quite kicking Guitar Hero ass, though I already can do a pretty mean Spiderwebs. I'm not so great on Twisted Sister though. By the way, my DS is pink...of course.

Regarding "Grandma Honey":

All of my nieces and nephews call me "Aunt Honey" which began when the first nephew came along about 25 years ago. Without realizing it, I would always say, "Hi, Honey!" when I saw him. As soon as he started making identifiable sounds, I just knew he was calling me "Honey." Somehow it caught on...because I'm soooooooooooo sweet. Yeah, you heard me. Sweet. Wanna make something of it?

So, Aunt Honey will also be Grandma Honey when Ava gets around to calling me anything other than "Guh." Unless, she wants to call me something else. Grandma Slash would be cool.

My Brain Has an Age

I bought myself a present. It's the Nintendo DS Lite. I also bought the game Brain Age which is supposed to make me smarter.

When you first play the game, it tells you how old your brain is. My brain is 80 years old. However, my alter ego LuLu has a brain age of 55. I knew that bitch was smarter than me.

Back So Soon?

I solved my computer issues by removing Trendmicro PC-Cillin 2007 from my computer. Luckily, it was a free trial version so I'm not out any money. I've been using PC-Cillin for several years with no problem but I'm evidently not the only person who has had problems with the the 2007 version.

I looked around the internet to see what else was out there for antispyware and antivirus protection but each program had people who loved it and people who hated it. After the nightmare I've had the last two days with the PC-Cillin program, I decided I didn't want any of them.

My solution? I have decided to put all my eggs in one basket and downloaded the Microsoft Windows Live OneCare antivirus/antispyware/firewall system. I also downloaded Internet Explorer 7 and everything seems to be running a lot smoother than it was even before I tried to upgrade my PC-Cillin.

People like to fret about whether or not Microsoft is trying to take over the world, but, this morning, I don't care. If Bill Gates was here right now, I'd kiss his ass.

Hey, Baby

One night, around midnight, I got a phone call. I picked up the phone and the guy on the other end of the line asked for Lisa. I said, "You have the wrong number." He said, "Okay," and hung up. Three seconds later, the phone rang again and the same guy says, "What are YOU doing?" I hung up the phone and lamented the fact that it was the most action I had gotten in months.

One day last week, I received a text message that said, "Hey, Baby." I didn't recognize the number so I didn't respond. Yesterday, I noticed the text message in my saved messages and started wondering about it. What if the person sending the text message had worried and fretted over sending the "Hey, Baby" and finally gathered up their courage and sent the message and then, upon receiving no response, went into a deep dark depression and became so depressed they couldn't go to work and lost their job and their house and their car...and it was all my fault!

In the old days, when you got a wrong number, you knew it immediately. Now, with text messaging, once the message is sent, it's gone. You have to wonder how many relationships are forever damaged by the punch of a careless finger.

"I sent you a text message. Why didn't you respond?"

"I didn't get it."

"Kiss my ass."

"Bite me."

etc, etc, etc...

I decided to text message the "Hey, Baby" person and tell them I received the message and thought it was a mistake. They responded by saying, "Sorry, wrong number."

Yeah, bite me.
