Penny Lane Very Strange - Part 2

Last month, I did a post questioning the nature of reality and consciousness. A couple of weeks ago, I did another post about some strange coincidences that have happened to me in the last couple of months. Most of those coincidences were in some way related to The Beatles.

As I mentioned before, my son and daughter-in-law gave me a copy of The Beatles The Biography by Bob Spitz for Christmas. I have the book on my nightstand. This morning as I was getting ready for work I thought, "Okay, if someone is trying to tell me something through this book, lets see what it might be."

I picked up the book, opened it to a random page (page 564 to be exact) and, I swear to you, this is what I saw:

Chapter 28
Into the Cosmic Consciousness

Dead center in that photograph is a picture of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who happened to start a university here in my town of Fairfield, Iowa because they believed it was the center of the western world (directly across from India.) Now thirty years later, it is still going strong and they are still building peace palaces all over the world. Two more are also going up here in town. It's a huge pyramid scam of sorts and I could go on and on with stories but I won't. Not enough time to tell them.

Let's just say that 25% of the population here in town still act and dress like the Beatles did in that picture.

OK. The most important question is why this question of conciousness has become so important to YOU so that you see and hear stuff about it everywhere. I know there's some folks that really think that the universe/God/the sacred serenades us with stuff we need to hear and others that are convinced we we only see what what we want to see. I'm convinced that we're met half way. There's a lot of stuff out there and it takes a whole lot less looking for it than we think. When we make the effort, we find it. Its a little like looking for Easter eggs.
Becoming more concious is all about thinking, feeling and observing on a deeper level than you have before. There is an intentionality about it and an embracing of it on you part that needs to happen. In a really basic way, I think it means looking at those things that are good and bad in a deep enough way that we feel, see and think how things are more complicated than that; how we have multiple motivations for things. Then we live out lives concious of that reality. It means we do see more and more connections between things and how for every action there is a reaction. And it really is a "becoming" thing. There are rarely 100% solutions in this thinking. Part of it is becoming concious that there are limits to what we can do.
So, if you've ben feeling as though you've been living your life without "intention," and you want to start, here's what I'd suggest. This is really very simple. For the next 30 days, pick a few things you want to be more intentional about, figure out what it would mean to make that thing be more meaningful and then do it. At the end of 30 days, evaluate, then repeat.

Ed - I had no idea that was going on in Iowa.

Al - I thought you were the walrus.

Popeye - You always have the most amazing insights.

Jen - I think he's onto something.

I had no idea about Fairfield, Iowa either, and I was in Iowa 3 times last May, got lost a few times too! Iowa seems to be the place I get lost a lot, but the people are always nice.

Iowa City was a blast, we had lots of fun, I could live there, I think. Only thing I didn't like was the amount of ethanol in the gas there.
