Since I haven't gotten sick from the salmonella, we can possibly assume one of three things:
- My jar wasn't contaminated.
- I have so much salmonella in my kitchen, I'm immuned to it.
- All the sushi I eat has my colon so full of bacteria, that the monster from Alien couldn't live in there.
I'm going with number one although number two and number three would explain why I'm the only person who never gets sick when I eat at Mr. Wok's House of Noodles. You know, the place. I'm sure your town has one. It's the one that receives its shrimp delivery at 7:00 a.m. on a hot summer day and doesn't bring it in until noon.
Mmmmm....noodles.

We had a jar of the tainted peanut butter, too. We were able to toss it before anyone dug into it.

Peanut butter is a staple of mine. Thankfully, I don't eat Peter Pan or GV PB. I'm a Jif girl all the way.
Peg had a jar in her desk. She'd had a spoonful or two. I'm with Jen on the Jif.
It's good you didn't get sick. I'm guessing it's reason #1, but it could be any one of them. I rarely get sick from anything I eat, so I figure my immunity's pretty good. My only rule of thumb is, "If it's oddly colored or doesn't smell right, don't eat it." So far, I'm still alive. I think.
I too have a jar of Peter Pan peanut butter - lot #2111.... and have been happily eating on it for weeks. I must be like you, I'm the girl who goes to Mexican border towns and eats tacos from the little old ladies on the side of the road. Never been sick! I wonder if the mass amount of beer I consume with my tacos has any bearing on the situation:) Any way, Happy Mardi Gras.

Jen - The Jif vs. Peter Pan has been a hot topic today. I even spoke to one person who prefers Skippy.

Serena Joy - Some of my friends and I tonight decided that all the crappy crap we eat has given our skin a nice little botox affect and that's why we still look good. :)

LOL, Laurie. If your pantry/fridge is like mine, it could well be homemade botox and antibiotics.
Peanut butter should NOT have salmonella. Nor should spinach, beef or any of the other non-egg or non-egg laying food we eat. All I can say is "What the ---- is going on with our food!"

Roxan - We discussed that at dinner, too. This is all very strange. One friend is convinced it's biological warfare. What better all american thing to attack than peanut butter.

I eat peanut butter with a bowl and spoon too, but haven't tried it with maple syrup. I like to put it in the microwave for a few seconds until it gets melty, like it does on toast.
