American Idol - Season 10, Top 13

In order of my favorite performances:

Casey - Unbelievable! Great stage presence and not a note off key.

James - Perfect! Not screechy and sounded beautiful.

Thia - Like the judges, I didn't care for the middle part at all, but I think she has a beautiful voice. I see her doing a lot of animated Disney princess voice overs.

Naima - I think this would have been incredible if she hadn't been so nervous. I really like her.

Jacob - He seemed so nervous in the beginning, I thought he was going to have a meltdown. The rest of the song was beautiful though. His pants were too tight.

Stefano - Sounded great, but I found his performance to be manic. Made me nervous.

Pia - Excellent vocal, but she bores me. I find her big notes to be a little flat, but who am I to say?

Lauren - Great voice, but I thought her performance was a mess. I like her though.

Scotty - Very good vocal, but also boring for me. He has a future in the recording business no matter what happens on Idol.

Haley - I like this girl, but did not like her performance at all.

Ashthon - Doesn't do a thing for me. She looked really beautiful though.

Paul - Love him, but what the hell? I thought he was awful and I HATE to say that.

Karen - Bad, bad, bad. Unless she gets a huge block of hispanic votes, she's going home.

American Idol 2011 - Episode 1

Don't let Simon up there fool you.  I owe Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler an apology.  For the last few months, I've been whining and moaning about American Idol's decision to make them judges.  Tonight, I take it back. 

I could do without Steven Tyler screeching every five minutes, but it's still better than listening to Kara DeLaGuardiaAirport's annoying repetitive comments.  There is another not so minor problem with Steven Tyler being on the judge's panel other than the screeching.  I watched the first ten minutes of the show on my 13-inch television upstairs while exercising.  When I moved downstairs to my 42-inch television, Steven's 62 years and weird nose were there to behold in high definition. Dude does not look like a lady.

Jennifer Lopez wasn't obnoxious, as expected, and made a lovely and sympathetic judge.  Randy is still goofy and there were times when he would try to make fun of a contestant and would look to his right for some Simon-ish reinforcement, but got none from Steve-O or J-Lo.  A week ago, I would have never thought I'd say this, but Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez were too classy to act like jerks with Randy.  At least, that's how the show was edited.

I didn't think I would enjoy American Idol without Simon and now, I'm confused.  Does getting rid of Kara and going back to three judges make up for the loss of Simon? I guess it does...so far, anyway.

Notes on American Idol

Aaron - Not great.  Can't blame it on still being sick.  It's been three weeks since he had a decent performance.

Katie - My favorite performance by her so far.  First time I've seen her consistent throughout the whole song.

Andrew - Not as good as last week, but still better than his earlier performances.

Michael  - Great voice, but I wasn't crazy about it.

Crystal - Crystal does the Beatles.  Excellent.

Tim - One of my favorites of the night.  The song and the look fit him perfectly.

Casey - Oh...my...God.  My absolute favorite of the night.  Fantastic.

Siobhan - Beautiful voice.  Nicely done.

Lee - Not my favorite performance by him, but I'm glad he looked so happy.

Bottom three:  Aaron, Siobhan, Andrew

Notes on American Idol

Siobahn - Not good. I still like her though. She's got to get it together. I hope they didn't freak her out so much that she can't make a comeback.

Katie - Sounded good, but it wasn't very "together" like the judges said.

Didi - Sucked out loud. The girl just does nothing for me.

Crystal - Great, of course, but she should have lost the piano.

Casey - HOT!

Andrew - Great…I was so happy he did that.

Aaron - Not good, but I think he's still sick or something. Why did they put him at the end? He must have been WAY better in rehearsal.

Michael - Loved it so much better than the hokey cr*p he's been doing. Very good.

Tim - Simon cracked me up…"It doesn't matter what we say, so good for you. See you next week."
Hahahah!! Ellen was so funny, too…"You looked like you were trying to sneak up on us, but we could see you." HAHAHAHAH!!!

Lee - AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! AMAZING!!!!!!! AMAZING!!!!!!!!! Plus, I love that song, so that made it even more amazing.

Bottom three: Didi, Siobahn, Katie

Usher was a good mentor except for the creepy Andrew Lloyd Weber thing…"Pretend I'm a beautiful woman." WTF?

Rumors are swirling that Simon Cowell will leave American Idol after this season. Paula is already gone. I don't like change, but it keeps being thrust upon me. Bastards.

Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins are splitting up after 23 years. I hate, hate, hate hearing things like that. Hate it.

Smokey Robinson's duet with Joss Stone on Idol Thursday night totally creeped me out. I think he was wearing Michael Jackson's contact lenses from that Thriller video.

Idol Apologizes to Contestant for Suggesting He Threatened Judges

American Idol has apologized to contestant Mark Mudd for suggesting he threatened the judges during an audition show last week in Louisville, Ky.

After Mudd was rejected, the 25-year-old wannabe singer told the judges, "Take care and be careful."

Paula Abdul interpreted that line as a threat, explaining that it's "not a normal thing to say to people."

On Thursday, Idol reps issued the following apology:

"We apologize to any viewers who were offended by the misinterpretation of the contestant's comment to 'be careful' upon completion of his audition in Louisville, KY.

"Our visits to audition cities are relatively brief and sometimes regional greetings and salutations are lost in translation. We had not heard that phrase from any other contestants during the day, so it took everyone by surprise.

"We now know better and look forward to visiting Louisville again someday."

Curse you, you curse-ed DVR!!!

I went out last night and, as feared, my DVR didn't record American Idol which pisses me off to no end. I guess I'm going to have to pull my VHS out of the closet for backup. UGH!

What pisses me off even more is that American Idol is the only program on television that isn't rerun constantly or available online.

David Archuleta Coming to Beaumont!!

Got a crush on "American Idol" runner-up David Archuleta? Then you'll have a chance to see him in person Wednesday, March 11 at Scout Bar on Crockett Street in downtown Beaumont.

Tickets for the all-ages show are $26, and will go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. at all Frontgate Ticket outlets - including Guitar and Banjo Studio in Beaumont and A&S Music in Nederland. They will also be available online at www.frontgatetickets.com or by phone, 1-888-512-SHOW.

The 18 year-old Archuleta recently released his self-titled album. The record's first single, "Crush," rose to number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the United States.

His latest single is "A Little Too Not Over You".

American Idol - Season 8: "Be careful."

I agree that American Idol contestant Mark Mudd is a little scary looking, but Paula and Simon overreacted to his "be careful" remark taking it as a threat. It's a southern thang and I hope Randy set them straight on that. (Of course, if he did it was edited out. That would have lessened the imaginary "drama" of the imaginary situation.) The poor guy was being nice even after being blasted by the judges and he got chewed on for it.

I already have a favorite and his name is Adam Lambert. Here's a YouTube video...

I finally watched the two American Idol espisodes from this week last night. As it turns out, one of the standouts, Von Lee Smith, is already a YouTube sensation and has been for a couple of years. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Season 7 - My Annual (and always wrong) American Idol Prediction

In the order of elimination:

Amanda Overmyer - Her lack of enthusiasm coupled with her same-old, same-old will continue to annoy people and she'll be voted off this week.

David Hernandez - He's had one great performance in the last three weeks. Three strikes, you're out. He'll be gone in two weeks.

Ramiele Malubay - She'll be gone in three weeks, not for lack of vocal ability. She will completely self-destruct when David Hernandez gets sent home and will eventually live happily ever after with Danny Noriega and Colton Berry in a loft somewhere.

Chikezie - Chikezie will be saved from elimination and will be around one week longer than he should because of Ramiele's elimination due to her nervous breakdown, unless he can pull some kick-ass Luther Vandross out of his hat.

Kristy Lee Cook - Since she's "gone country," Kristy should be able to buy some time. However, she needs to do something about that crazy legs thing she has going on or she'll go before Chikezie.

Syesha Mercado - Syesha doesn't do anything we haven't seen a million times before. She does it well, she's beautiful and has a nice personality, but that's not enough this year. Last year, she would have at least come in second and might have won the whole thing.

Michael Johns - Early on, Michael Johns was my all-time favorite contestant ever. However, I'm growing tired of his Jim Morrison/Michael Hutchence vibe. None of that changes the fact that I still want a hot weekend in Vegas with him.

Jason Castro - A-damn-dorable. He makes me happy. Happy, happy, happy.

Brooke White - I like her much more than I thought I would. Sappy white chicks generally get on my nerves.

David Cook - All of the rock fans are going to be out for Chris Daughtry Premature Elimination revenge and will keep David Cook in for as long as possible. His horrible hair, notwithstanding, he deserves to stay.

Carly Smithson - I base my Carly Smithson #2 prediction more on my hopes for the finale. A Brooke White/David Archuleta finale might put me into a sugar coma. A David Cook/David Archuleta finale might totally blow my mind in an acid flashback sort of way.

David Archuleta - No contest. David Archuleta is your next American Idol. The only thing that might prevent him from winning is if his vocal paralysis kicks in and his mom has to perform for him. Actually, I don't know if that could even stop him.

American Idol

Well, "McSingy" (thanks Todd), is still with us and so is that other guy that I thought would get the boot Thursday night. I really thought "Peter Frampton Dude" and "Theatrical Ellen Degeneres Dude" would last at least a couple of more weeks, but alas I was wrong. I hear through the grapevine this week's theme is '70s music. I hope "Jacuzzi" learned his lesson and doesn't come out in a lime green leisure suit.

I was pretty sure Amy Davis was out but I was surprised that "Plus Model Chick" got the ax. I had a scary moment when Joanne and Amanda were standing there with Ryan, because I didn't understand which name Ryan said (Joanne...Amanda...they sound alike...right?) and I thought Amanda got voted off. Whew. Close one.
