Les Paw Mewsic Series
Saw a great show last night at The Les Paw Mewsic Series. This is my friend Steve Elliott's house which he has turned into a live music venue by putting church pews in his den. How cool is that? I will alert all of you for the next show. It's a wonderful place to hear great music. Last night was Drew Kennedy and it was a fantastic show. Can't wait for the next one!
As an extra added bonus, Donnie Courville brought some of Bigrich Courville's indescribable gumbo! Eat your hearts out, people, especially you John Cowan.

MTV is 30 years old? When did that happen?
While conversing with friends on Facebook, it came to my attention that MTV is 30 years old this year. I remember hearing about that, but I don't remember freaking out about it like I am right now.
It occurs to me that teenagers today might be thinking the music of 1981 is as ancient as we thought the music of 1941 was when we were teenagers.
Are they looking at Rod Stewart, Bananarama and Pat Benatar the same way we looked at Bing Crosby, The Andrews Sisters and Judy Garland?

Red Hot Chili Peppers = A Bunch of Old Guys
The smartass punk kid on VH-1 Countdown (just kidding about the smartass thing...I like him) just announced that this video is number one this week and "even though they're a little bit older, they still make great videos."
So, I thought, "When did the Red Hot Chili Peppers become a bunch of old guys in the eyes of the VH1 world?" The VH1 audience isn't exactly the young MTV crowd. So, I looked it up. Flea and Anthony Kiedis are both 50. How is that possible? I think I need a nap and some Geritol.
On another note, "Pop Up Video" is coming back. I love "Pop Up Video."

Thomas Jefferson All Alumni (and friends) Monthly Gathering
Every month for the last couple of years alumni from my high school, Thomas Jefferson in Port Arthur, Texas, have gotten together the last Saturday (sometimes Friday) of the month to hang out and harass each other. In the past, we've mostly had alumni from 1972-ish through 1980-ish, but everybody is invited and if you'd like to join us, don't be shy about bringing friends.
This month, our gathering will be Saturday, January 29, 2011, at the Logon Cafe . The Logon is at 3805 Calder Avenue (beside CVS and across the street from Kroger) in Beaumont. The sound is great and they also have delicious food. The band starts at 8:30 p.m., but some of us will be there by 7:30 p.m.
The band Saturday night will be Longneck Road, which is one of my favorite local bands. Class of 1973 alumni Ron Arceneaux is in the band and I work with the talented founder/singer/musician/songwriter Dick LeMasters.
You can find more details on the TJ Alumni Happenings events tab on Facebook.

It's, Oh, So Quiet Official Video with Lyrics on Screen
Have you been wondering who is singing that song on the HBO promos with the girl screaming? It's Bjork singing "It's Oh So Quiet."

Frampton Comes Alive...Again
Tonight (last night, actually), I saw Peter Frampton at the Isle of Capri casino in Lake Charles. He was as energetic, talented and charismatic as ever. His voice and guitar playing were everything I remembered from the last time I saw him in 1980 in Beaumont. The show lasted a full two hours which included a twenty minute encore. If he brings his tour anywhere near you, you should try to go. His version of "Black Hole Sun" alone is worth the price of admission.
After the concert, we went to Crockett Street and caught Joe Mendoza and Smokin' Joe Soliz and their band (which is currently nameless, although the name might or might not be "The Joe Mendoza Blues Band") at The Hub on Crockett Street. These guys are amazing and will be playing on the patio at Cafe Del Rio Friday, June 18, 2010. You should go. I'll save you a chair.

The number is 409-860-9811 and you pay by credit card when you make your reservation. Ticket price is usually $30, though Billy Joe Shaver was $50 in the past.
