Another Movie Post

One movie I try to watch but just can't seem to make it through the whole thing:
The Sound of Music

Two movies you might not have seen, but you should see:
The Philadelphia Story
It Happened One Night

Three movies most people love but do nothing for me:
Forrest Gump
Dances With Wolves
Jerry McGuire

Four movies from AFI's Top 100 I know I haven't seen (there were several "maybes" but these are the standouts):
Shane

Old Yeller
To Kill a Mockingbird (I haven't read the book either.)
Schindler's List

The Sound of Music spoiler - The Hills aren't really alive - skip it. Agree with 2 out of 3, but I liked Forrest Gump. Of the 4 AFI picks you haven't seen, SEE THEM! If there comes a semester when you have the free time, think about taking one of Lane Roth's film classes at Lamar. They are time well spent. He teaches general, genre specific and studies of certain directors.

Shame shame shame on you for not reading/seeing To Kill a Mockingbird. You must do so immediately. It's my favorite book and one of my top movies.

The Philadelphia Story is awesome!

I also don't care much for Jerry McGuire. It never had me at hello, not even at the credits. Dances With Wolves was too much naked Kevin Costner for me. :P

Jen T. is right. Shame on you!
I thought Dances With Wolves was stupid.
Empire Of The Sun is excellent. Watch that one. If you haven't already.

You might like "The Sound of Music" if every viewing of it meant an interactive song and dance extravaganza, ala a g-rated version of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." That's how my sisters and I watched it growing up...(OK, we still watch it like that.)

I think "The Philadelphia Story" is hilarious and "It Happened One Night" is an all time fave. I forced it on my teenaged son and he had to admit to enjoying it.

You must read "To Kill A Mockingbird." Run to the bookstore now.

Pokerboss - I've often thought about taking some of those movie courses at Lamar. I need to stop thinking and start doing.

Jen - As soon as Lent is over, I'm definitely buying To Kill a Mockingbird.

Peter - It's going well but it's only been a day and a half. :)

Roxan - I saw Empire of the Sun. It was a great movie.

La Sirena - As soon as Lent is over, To Kill a Mockingbird will be my first purchase.

You've never read TO KILL A MOCKING BIRD??? Shame on you! The movie is awesome as well.

I thought I was the only person in the world who HATED Jerry Maguire. I'm glad to know there are others out there who feel the same way.
I could never finish watching:
Space Odessey
Clockwork Orange

I did love Forest Gump and Dances with Wolves.

some of my suggestions:
"ROOM WITH A VIEW"
"ENGLISH PATIENT"
"Schindler's List" (awesome but I could only see it one time)
"REAR WINDOW" Grace Kelly is beautiful

Surely you've seen
FARGO!!!

Zina - I watche all of Space Odyssey but was totally confused by it. I think I watched all of Clockwork Orange but was very disturbed by it.

Loved Rear Window but was bored with Room With a View and The English Patient.

Loved Fargo!

The way I watched Space Odessey--yes I watched but not all of it...and this is why.
A friend of mine decided that the long quiet scenes were so long between the dialog that you couldn't help but get lost. SO we fast forward through the quiet stuff and just watch the dialog scenes.......

I was still confused.

Laurie: Don't feel too bad about not reading "To Kill a Mockingbird." I'm an English teacher with a Master's in English and guess what? I've never read the book or seen the movie :) If you haven't seen "Old Yeller", you have to see it, just make sure you have lots and lots of tissues. Also, watch "Where the Red Fern Grows" or better yet, read the book! Ok, that was the teacher in me :) Cindy

Zina - Hahahahah!

Cindy- I don't feel so bad about my Mockingbird deficiency now. :)

Amen to dumping Gump! I have seen this movie two or three times, and I cannot figure out what it is people see in this film! It's the story of a stupid person who stumbles through recent history and chases after a loser girlfriend...AAAAAAGH! Not funny, not clever, not insightful... not anything but an Academy Award Winning film.

Peace,

Tim

Tim - YES! I agree with everything you said. I just don't get it.
