Hit Me Baby

I watched Hit Me Baby One More Time last night. The premise of the show is performers of the Where Are They Now genre are pitted against each other to win money for the charity of their choice. The performers sing their most popular song from back in the day and then sing a cover of a currently popular tune. It’s hosted by a giant of a man with some sort of indistinguishable and barely intelligible Anglo-European accent.

Thelma Houston (Don’t Leave Me this Way) blew away the competition on last night’s show. The week before, Irene Cara won but I was rooting for Wang Chung especially after they did a cover of Nelly’s It’s Getting Hot In Here.

Staying with the music theme of this little post, these are the CD’s I brought to work today:

1. Pure Funk (Various Artists)
2. Thank God It’s Friday (Soundtrack)
3. 50 Number Ones (George Strait)
4. Lie to Me (Johnny Lang)
5. O Brother, Where Art Thou (Soundtrack)

(Note to Susan in Minnesota and Wang Chi: I know, I know, “No Al Stewart?” He’s at home by my computer for evening listening.)

Surfed in through Blogexplosion. Watched the show last night and thought Billy Vera should have won. The second week with the Knack was the best as far as acts go, I thought. Did you notice they didn't eveb give one name of who's on next wee? Not a good sign.

Yeah, yeah, that's what they all say, LOL
I have Al here on my work lap top, Al in the car, and Al at home.

The other night my best friend, Spitfire Girl called to ask if I would give someone a ride down to Des Moines next week when I go to meet her on the great race:

After discussing it a bit with her I said "well as long as she likes AL Stewart, because you know what I am listening to all the way down there" and Spitfire Girl laughs and goes, "well, YEAH!!!!"

Don't fight it Laurie, its going to happen...

Vito - I just started watching it last week. I thought Billy Vera was excellent last night as well. I was wondering about next week myself.

Susan - I'll just let the Al wash over me.

Laurie---what a hoot! While I'm reading this blog, my Yahoo radio is playing Cutting Crew "I Just Died in your Arms Tonight". Talk about where are they....

And who is Al Stewart? Why don't I know? Shit, girl, you gotta stop expanding my musical horizons....going to Google now.

The Irene Cara thing was RIGGED. Come on...CARA-mel. They were awful.

I liked everyone but her.

Love the show.

Lorna - Cutting Crew! One of my favorite songs - I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight - great! Al Stewart - Year of the Cat, Time Passages - but I'm sure you figured that out by now. He has a new CD coming out soon and I heard a pre-release and he still sounds fantastic.

Zina - I thought Irene Cara did pretty good but I don't remember who else was on that episode. Who did you like best?

Zina - I just looked up last week. I thought Howard Jones and Wang Chung did great.

oh yeah, the 'oh brother...' sndtrk is excellent! i love all the root stuff. the guys that do the big hit are on 'eric clapton's crossroads dvd, (i am too lazy to find it now for the title, i'll get back to ya about it).
everyone needs that cd.

Sleepybomb - I avoided it for the first two weeks also. I was afraid it would be just too depressing. Although some of the acts are hard to watch (more for sentimental reasons than for singing ability), when you see a Thelma Houston who still looks great and can still belt out a song, it's worth it.

I love the Oh Brother soundtrack. I'll check out the Eric Clapton DVD. Thanks.

If you like the Oh Brother soundtrack you should just get anything by Allison Krauss. She is on a few of the songs on that soundtrack and she has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard.

Laurie, I liked Cameo that night.

Zina - I agree! Cameo looked and sounded great.
