Urban Cowboy 25th Anniversary

We went out last night to the Dixie for the 25th Anniversary Party of the release of the Urban Cowboy. My sister, Bonnie, called a bunch of people she used to hang out with at The Palace, The Texas Swing and Wild Bills here in Beaumont back in the late 70's and early 80's. The Dixie had the movie playing on the monitors. They had bull riding contests and they had dance contests.

I had a great time and met a 30 year old man who fell madly in love with me. (It might have been madly in lust, but that still counts, doesn't it?) Twenty-five years ago, when I was 24, I would have been intrigued by that. Last night I was just confused. Today, I'm still confused. Sunday, he's taking me to see Willie Nelson with tickets he bought from Bonnie after she won the Urban Cowboy trivia contest.

Either that or I hallucinated the whole thing. I better call Bonnie.

30 yr old men can be useful, I would go and have fun. Lust is not such a bad thing either. There might be some problems if you tried to have a serious relationship, you have different values at 30 than you do in your 40's.

It used to be that anyone within 5 yrs of my age was fair game, though I extended it upward to within 9 yrs to accomodate a certain someone a few years back. It is pretty much people dependant. I do draw line with anyone who is young enough to be my child, or old enough to be my dad, it just seems unethical for me somehow.

You go with your bad self;). I loved that dumb movie.

And how do you feel about this guy, that's the big question?

Chris - I love Alan Jackson. When he hits a certain note when he's singing, I swear, I feel it on the back of my neck.

Susan - My two favorite relationships had pretty big age differences. One was a guy 12 years older and the other was a guy 11 years younger, so I never put an age limit on men. Finding someone you click with is more important than any age difference. That being said, I could easily(cringe)be this guy's mom, age-wise.

Katy - I STILL love that dumb movie. And, I shall go with my bad self.

Astrid - He was very nice and very funny and very cute. We had a good time. (Of course, Jagermeister was involved.)

Gee Whillikers! For Willie Nelson I'd go with a 6-year-old.

Go with the flow, Laurie. Can't hurt. Might help. Who knows? Who cares? Who..(aw, hell, I guess my feet don't grip a tree branch after all.)

Hi, passing by and came upon your blog again.

Hmmm... I agree w/the others.. go. It's Willie! As a country music fan, a singer of it, and as a gal, go with the 30-yr old. Even if you did hallucinate it, which sounds like you did not, it's quite acceptable to hallucinate up a 30-yr old date. I'd do it in a heartbeat. That's my opinion and I'm stickin' to it, lol!

Love your blog, by the way ;)

I burned every Western-style shirt I owned after that movie came out. But it did spark one great (though untested) idea. I suggested to a friend that we collect a lot of loose nuts and bolts, encase them in plastic and sell it at Gilley's as "Mechanical Bullshit." It did seem like it was just a stupid enough product to get people to buy it. Oh well ...

I just saw your comment on my site about state symbols. Too bad there wasn't one on Texas. I have always wondered whether the Texas State Mammal was the Horny Toad or the Two-Peckered Goat. Guess I'll never know.

Owen - I wish I would have brought my camera. It was hilarious and, the later it got, the funnier it got.

Old Horsetail - I knew you'd be a Willie fan.

Dorna - ;)

Crazy - Thirty years, wow! Good for them. I'm just going to put the age thing out of my mind and have fun.

Carolyn - Thanks for the nice words about my blog. Feel free to write a country song about my younger man encounter. :)

Dick - That's hilarious! I think you should resurrect the idea for the Urban Cowboy 25th anniversary. I bet you could sell it on E-bay! Seriously.

Old Horsetail - I'm pretty sure it's the Horny Two-Peckered Goat. I'll look it up.

I was driving down the road the other day and it occurred to me that I will be 30 in five years. FIVE YEARS. My point is, Laurie, that we don't have a lot of time on this earth! Go out with the 30-year old and have mad sex after the Willie concert. :)

Your pal,
Jen

That sounds about right to me.

JT - You are a bad girl to suggest I get some willie after Willie.

Lorna - You are a bunch of wild women!

Fav File Clerk - And, you are the wildest of them all! Bad, bad, girls, the lot of you! :)
