The Winter Brothers
I’m going to see the Edgar Winter Band and Johnny Winter tomorrow night here in Beaumont. These guys are from my home town (Port Arthur) and I don’t remember the last time they played here in southeast Texas . I don’t think I’ve ever seen them in concert, but I really don’t remember.
I missed Dwight Yoakum last week. He was in Beaumont but he was playing at Wild Bills on a Thursday night and it was Honky Tonk Seating. Honky Tonk Seating actually has nothing to do with sitting. In Honky Tonk Seating, you kind of wander around all night with a beer in your hand waiting for the concert to start (usually after 10:00 p.m.) then you squeeze as close to the stage as you can get. However, no matter how close you get, you are invariably stuck behind four or five rows of men who are wearing cowboy hats. Put another way, you can’t see shit.
The Winter brothers are going to be at the Civic Center and I’ll be in the third row…in a seat.

Davie will be backstage as Edgar Winter is the love of her life, isn't that right, Vetta? Don't let Michael Bolton find out!!! Bahahahahahaaa! :)
Ohh Nooo Albino Madness - Saw Johnny WInter a couple of years ago, he put on a great show. Busy week here as well. Last week was Lyle Lovett and Little Feat. This Weekend is Rebirth Brass Band and Buddy Guy.
No rest for the wicked - have a great time this wekend
hi Laurie, not much danger of cowboy hats at the Winter brothers show, i would guess.
Jen - Remember when we had to explain albinoism to one of our workmates?
Al - I love Lyle Lovett and Little Feat and Buddy Guy is a legend. I think I might ahve seen Buddy Guy in Houston somewhere. Lyle Lovett was here a couple weeks ago and my parents went but I didn't get to go. They said he was amazing.
Peter - Not true. The guys down here wear their cowboy hats anywhere and everywhere. It's not just a costume for the country bars or country concerts. They're as common as baseball caps anywhere else.
just caught up after a few days of computerless strange behavious. You are such a storehouse of wisdom! I feel breathless now and am off for a hit of Oxygen. or coffee.
Lorna - I vote for both. Just stay away from open flames (the oxygen, of course...more Miss New Orleans wisdom).
I could have gone years without having that portrait blazed into my brain!
Abby – I thought it was kind of lovely in a pale, androgynous, brotherly, upside-down sort of way. Sorry about th blazin'.
That picture is disturbing on so many levels.
"blypm"
Jack - Sorry about the disturbin'.
("skxzpaxc" - sounds like something Snoop Dogg would say.)
During my last trip to Texas on a job interview, I noticed that everyone still wore cowboy hats and boots but instead of six shooters strapped around the waist, they had cell phones and leathermans.
P.S. Their horses looked a bit different too.
Ed - What's a leatherman?
Laurie, we had to explain many things to co-workers. :)
And I think a "Leatherman" is one of those multi-faceted tools. Kind of like a Swiss Army knife, but marketed toward rednecks.
Antispam word: bskoweef
Jen - What would they have done without us? Probably sleep better at night for one thing.
