Comedy Texas, Richard Pryor, Queen and Cam Pyle at Antone's

I just got in from Antone's where we saw the Cam Pyle Band. Check out Flickr on the sidebar for some pictures. First, we went to Comedy Texas to celebrate my mom's 70th birthday and the comedians were great but I don't remember their names which is inexcusable. At Comedy Texas, several of the comedians mentioned that Richard Pryor died earlier today which was a very sad moment to experience in a comedy club, but it is exactly where I would want to hear that kind of news. On the way home from Antone's, I rocked out to the best song you can rock out to on your way home from a great night out: Bohemian Rhapsody.

The comics might have also mentioned that Gene McCarthy, the Minnesota senator who gave credibility to the anti-Viet Nam war movement by running for president, died on the same day. He and Pryor each had a huge effect on the American consciouness, in ways that may turn out to be similar.

Coincidentally, President Bush was in Minnesota at the time of McCarthy's death, trying to pump up support for an immoral war.

Laurie, you're so cool because you support the live arts. That's where the real talent is, and that's where the real connections between human performers and human audiences occur. Richard Pryor was always first and foremost a stand-up comic. I'm glad to hear he is remembered in the comedy clubs as such.

Larry - Most of the people who eventually change the way people think start out misunderstood but they stick with their convictions anyway, thank God.

Tim - I'm really embarrassed that I didn't remember the names of the comedians. Last week, the names were on the website. Next time I go, I'm going to write down the names.

Bohemian Rhapsody---I want it played at my memorial service. Please make a note in case I forget to tell anybody else.

I'm mourning Richard Pryor and McCarthy too.

And Laurie, you're so cool for way too many reasons

Lorna - Never fear, I shall carry out your Bohemian wishes.

I have always loved the song Bohemian Rhapsody even before Wayne and Garth made it a hit... for the second time. If I had a chance to go to any concert of a now dead or defunt band, Queen would top the list.

In celebration of Richard Pryor's death I say, "He was a fucking comedic genius!"

Ed - I bet if I had seen Queen back in the day, I wouldn't even have appreciated it.
