Katie (my niece) and I spent the day at Mardi Gras in Port Arthur Saturday. We saw some parades including a motorcycle parade which was great. The Grand Marshal of the main parade was Mary Kay Place. As mentioned in a previous post, my sister Bonnie relived her glory days as drum major of the Red Hussars, a drum and bugle corps from our old high school, Thomas Jefferson in Port Arthur. Pictures follow.

Man, that is so colourful, and it looks so warm too. Where's the fairness in that? When I lived in Québec, we did Carnaval too, and the biggest obstacle to enjoying yourself was clearing your driveway of the 6 ft. snowdrifts so you could motor yourself and your booze-filled cane downtown and ogle the ice sculptures. I hadn't learned layering then and I've never been that cold---but I was cute if you didn't count the runny nose.
It's so funny that you thought it looked warm. It was about 40 degrees and we thought we were freezing. I guess we Southerners have thin blood.
