I had a little yellow card in my mailbox yesterday saying I had a package at the post office. Ah, my lovely Amazon order of this...
this...
and this....
Disregarding the fact that this is tax day, I went to the post office during my lunch hour anyway. Not that I'm having any sort of cooking emergency or anything, I just wanted my cookbooks. When I opened the door at the post office, there were about fifteen people in line in front of me, one guy at a window with seven or eight big boxes and another guy at the one other open window doing God knows what.
On top of having only two windows open on tax day, there was, evidently, some sort of computer problem and the clerks were having to do everything manually. (Their stars were NOT in line.) After I had been standing in line about two minutes, a lady came out from the back room and asked, "Is there anybody here to pick up something that doesn't involve a money transaction?"
Well, by God, that would be me. I walked past everyone in line, trying not to sashay and trying not to make eye contact, picked up my package and hauled ass. When I got in the car, "Year of the Cat" was playing. Al Stewart and I share a birthday and, whenever I hear an Al Stewart song, especially "Year of the Cat," I definitely consider it a good omen.
Thank you stars.

On a completely different topic, I find it troubling that you have an equal number of post labeled "American Idol" and "Ava."
Pokerboss - Troubling? I love my Ava and I love my Idol. Nothing troubling there.
Mmmm, Food. Mmmmmmm, Al's music. Mmmmmm, not having to wait in line at the post office.
Sounds like you had a great day :-)
What's for dinner?
Just... - The Galatoire recipes are surprisingly uncomplicated, for the most part. I think my first attempt will be a wonderful looking shrimp creole.
I was going to ask: "Whatcha gonna make first? Something from the Galatoire's book?" :)
Great food is often uncomplicated, something that gets lost on those cooking shows like Iron Chef and Top Chef. Fun to watch, but I wouldn't eat much of it!
But Galatoire's, Arnaud's, Brennan's. . . ahhhh.
Oh, and if the train video gave me a bad flashback about living in Chicago, this post gave me a very good flashback about living in New Orleans! :)
Your stars are always in line.
Great Karma that day! I always love when my Amazon packages arrive, beforehand I'm like Ralphie checking the mail for the little orphan Annie decoder ring.
More good Karma, those 3 cookbooks are all great. Of, course I love the Galatoire's, but I've followed Tom Fitzmorris' site for years and his book is great. Kit Wohl's books are my new favorites, she has a Seafood book just like the dessert book, and a New Orleans Appetizer book which will be out in a few months. She also co-wrote the Arnaud's Cookbook which is another fave of mine.
Don't get me going on New Orleans/Louisiana cookbooks, it is my obsession, I have over 60 now.
I haven't been by in awhile Laurie, I apologize, I've always enjoyed your site, you always give me a laugh. I haven't even been working my own site for some time, I am revitalized now though.
Sorry, I forgot that this was just a comment, turned into a post.
Love 'ya and will be by more often!
Adela - Hahahaha!
Lorna - Aw, thanks!
Danno - I was happy to see you back blogging! I still need to try some of your recipes. They all sound wonderful.
Now if I would have told that story to the WonderWife she would have given me this confused look...
When I would ask what that was about she would say something like,
"All of the good karma AND YOU DIDN"T GET A LOTTERY TICKET?!?"
Grimm - Why didn't I think of that!
