Best Buy Extended Warranty - Update

I promised an update on my experience with the Best Buy Extended Warranty program after having to bring my camera in for repair.

I brought the camera to Best Buy on 10/2/07 because it quit working and I had purchased the 4-year extended warranty when I bought the camera 3 years ago. Best Buy sent the camera away and, without any drama whatsoever, the camera was returned to me yesterday. Granted, it took 3 weeks, but they "replaced practically all of the internal electronics" according to the Geek Squad guy, at no cost to me. So, I'm not complaining.

The camera seems to be working fine and, it might be just my imagination, it seems to be a little snappier. Best Buy gets a B++ from me. It would have gotten an A except that I wish it hadn't taken so long to get the camera back.

If you could see one of the guys that works at my nearest Best Buy, yu'd be giving it A++ with bells.

You are lucky! I've heard way too many Best Buy warranty horror stories.

The only experience I've had actually using an extended warranty was with BB. It was great. They couldn't fix the DVD player and basically gave me store credit for what I had paid for it. With the way technology prices drop, I had a shopping spree.

Lorna - How far away is Canada?

Miss Cellania - I know. I was worried.

Pokerboss - Sounds like it worked out for you, too.

I've never had luck with EW's. There always seems to be some kind of loophole where I end up paying for something that wasn't my fault.
Glad it worked out for you.

Blue Cat - Thanks. I seem to definitely be the exception to the rule.

Mind if I ask how much the camera cost? At what $$ do they try to repair it versus just replace it? I have a 2 year old camera under a 4 year warranty I was planning to bring into best buy this weekend, and considering the horror stories I am trying to prepare myself for what to expect. My camera is limping along, which is better that giving it up for a month over xmas...

Brett - I paid $300 for the camera 3 years ago. You have quite a dilemma, because I would bet money they'll send the camera off for repair.

Is it better to have a limping camera for the holidays?

Is it better to have no camera for the holidays because Best Buy sent it away?

Is it better to go ahead and buy a relatively inexpensive camera for the holidays and send your camera off for repair? Then, when your camera comes back, you have a backup camera. (I considered doing this but never got around to it.)

Dilemma, I tell you. Good luck.
