An eagle has made a nest here in southeast Texas between Beaumont and Orange. These pictures are amazing. I'll probably drive out there this weekend to check it out myself. This is a very rare occurrence.
The nest is located on the left side of Highway 105 going towards Vidor, west of the intersection of 1442 and Highway 105. I hesitated to list the location but, hopefully, my few southeast Texas readers will respect the nest. One site I saw advises that you stay in your car so that the eagles won't be disturbed.

Cool!
WOW. Those photos are gorgeous! How great to be able to observe.
Those pictures are amazing! Wow.
Wow..awesome pictures! I moved from Orange one year ago and I would love to go back just to see this....oh, yeah, and a few old friends I left behind. I read your blog to sort of stay aware of what's going on there. I miss Texas!
Sandy - How nice! I'll have to write more stuff about the area.
Jen, Donna and Leslie - Isn't that amazing?!
Wow -- that's spectacular!
Peggy - Definitely!
Laurie, did you take those pictures yourself??
I saw a bald eagle once before in East Texas. You need to report this to the Texas Wildlife Commission, or whatever it's called. They track eagles. I'll look it up for you.
Laurie, send an email to nature@tpwd.state.tx.us. Or look up the Game & Fish Commission in the phone book and call them.
Never mind the stupid question about if you took the pictures-- I reread the post, duh. The person who's seen them (which could be you if you got out there) should report it, i.e., an actual witness, not hearsay! :-)
Laura - I e-mailed the guy and he said they've been watching that site for about a month. Thanks for the e-mail address.
That is so cool! Thanks for sharing. I love rare bird sightings. We occasionally get snowy falcons nesting on the light posts here in Chicago.
La Sirena - Oh, man, I bet that's cool.
That is great. Good to see that Bald Eagles are making a comback.
Ole Blue - I think I'm going to drive out there and check it out tomorrow.
Very awesome pics. I have saw them in the zoo but never in the wild.
Grimm - The pictures are amazing. I hope I get to see them in person.
That's cool! There is an eagle's nest near my mom and dad's on Toldedo Bend. I got to see it before I left to come over here. It's out on the lake at the top of a dead tree. It's amazing how big the nest is. I swear when I was little I saw an Ivory billed woodpecker out in the swamps of East Texas. They say there have been recent sightings of them as well.
Texas Gal - I had no idea eagles came this far south.
