I'm giving one of those Mary Kay makeup parties at my house this Friday evening and there is no better place to purchase seemingly homemade appetizers and dips than Sam's. Don't scoff at my Mary Kay party. I still have to make a trip to Spec's, my favorite liquor store. My prediction is that we will not only be quite beautiful and moisturized by about 9:30 p.m. Friday night, we will also be quite sauced.
Since my employer recently quit paying for extra Sam's Club memberships on their corporate card, I had to purchase my own membership for the first time in years. Did you know that membership will now cost you $40? I didn't.
I guess I'll be converting one of my upstairs closets to a pantry so I can take full advantage of buying in bulk. It's the only way I can imagine that I'll get my $40 worth in the next year. Well, that and I plan to eat lunch there at least once a week by appearing interested in what the sample ladies are dishing out.

I hope you have a great party, well moisturised and well sauced :). I visited New Orleans many many years ago (say 25-30!) as a very prim English girl in her early teens ........ I learned to love jazz (I used to sit with other children and play and listen outside bars etc ... something that is probably a criminal offence these days!) I discovered some wonderful food (I learned that real pralines had whole nuts and real jumbalaya had such secret ingredients that even "Mamma Joe" who looked after me when my Mum was at work, wouldn't share her secrets ....... even on the day we left for the UK!! One of the "lullabies" I sang to my daughters when they were wee was "Marie Laveau", after we left the States and came back to the UK my Daddy sang it to me,and 15 or so years later ... we, in the north east of England still sing it to our children:)
Gillie - That sounds absolutely wonderful!
I figure out my savings from time to time using what I have spent at Sams vs what the same things would have cost me some place else. The average for me is that for every $100 spent I save about $40. So I will get my money back in one trip to Sams.
I bought my liquor at Sams this weekend. Margarita mix, Jose Gold, and Roses lime. Yummy!
Sylvana - That makes me feel better. Thanks!
I just got renewed my Sam's card a month ago, when my son was home. I spent $200 on groceries, soap, etc...and haven't gone to the store since, except for milk and a few fresh veggies. I'm thinking this may be the way to go; keeps me from weekly $80+ excursions.
btw, my word verification is "bfiesta." In honor of your Mary Kay fiesta, of course.
GnightGirl - Ole!
I'lll be the one with the pinky-gold lipstick where one of my chins is.....
I don't go to Sam's but I had the best time at Costco last Saturday. While tasting my way around the store I discovered the *best* potstickers! Also, for $1.60 (including tax) I get a poslish sausage with onions, mustard and kraut and a coke, after I'm finished! Can't beat that!
I'm sure your party will be great!
It's hard to imagine the days when people entertained without a Sam's Club membership. However did they manage?:)
Lorna - I'll save you a chair!
Sophmom - I saw the potstickers at Sam's. I think I'll go back and buy them.
(We don't have a Costco.)
Janet - I served a lot of little crustless sandwiches.
My former/your current employer used to buy extra memberships? I feel so cheated. Not that I would ever have used one. :)
Brian has one. He uses it to buy batteries for the band in bulk.
Jen - It was when I first went to work there a long time ago and they forgot I was on the list until recently. So did I, quite frankly.
