A Brief Update

I just spoke to Wang Chi. He's back in Beaumont and cooking breakfast and being a good little boy scout. My dad is also still in Beaumont and has taken the screens off his windows so mom is picturing all the critters he's sharing the house with.

Regarding our trip in last night, have you ever driven in Houston traffic...at night...to a place you've never been before to drop your aunt off at her daughter's house...with three cars following you...trying to not get killed by people driving 90 miles an hour and at the same time not lose everyone? That's why I kissed my car. My legs were shaking when we got to my cousin's house in The Woodlands but we made it safely. That's what counts. Then, we had to drive another hour to my son's house here in Alvin.

By the way, the survivalists are right. I'll post more on this later but for now, take heed. If there is ever a disaster in your area (of the bombing, terrorist sort), just start running. Believe me, your car will be useless and you will be stuck in traffic about ten feet from your driveway. Our evacuation here was staggered and there is no way anyone would have gotten out alive if everyone had to (or tried to) leave at once .

On another note, I won't be checking in on all of your blogs while I'm staying at my son's because my son has dial-up and I don't want to tie up his phone so I'll only get online to do some posting.

Love to everyone and peace out.

It is enough if you just keep us posted on how YOU are, Laurie. Good luck on the trail ahead.

I think the gridlock in Houston would be an excellent reason to purchase a off road motorcycle and a couple jerry cans of gasoline strapped to the back. Sure the interstates were jammed but the medians were wide open. I was surprised whenever I saw the helicopter shots that people weren't driving in them with their four wheel drive vehicles.

Glad we're still hearing from you, Laurie. Take good care of you.

Thinking of you as my favorite evacuee. You could get us all to blog host for you--if you have the courage. tee-hee. I'm sure there's plenty of cuervo . . .

Old Horsetail - Wang Chi has 2 or 3 fans. (He'll get me for that one.)

Ed - When we were stuck on Highway 105 for 7 hours and drove 30 miles, people were driving on both shoulders and in both lanes (it was never set up for contraflow). I understood their frustration and couldn't even get mad at them but it was so scary.

Tanda - We're taking care. We are so lucky to have somewhere nice to stay.

ME Strauss - Plenty of Cuervo. Help yourself!

Laurie,

Kara is on her way here with a friend of hers. I think she's just frustrated. Coming here seemed to make her happy. At least you got rid of my brother (love you bro) but he can get bitchy fast.

Keep in touch. Mom said David got into the area with a work pass for the beach houses so they may be moving into a beach cabin. This way they can help clean the cabins out when they are done building.

David may be able to put Chris to work.
Is there any way people can get unemployment for this time or is FEMA the only thing out there?

I know exactly what you mean about Houston traffic. I've driven in it before, and I live in Atlanta now. It takes me 1 hour to drive 8 miles to work and another hour to drive 8 miles home in the evening.

Zina - I feel so bad for Kara. I think it's harder on the younger ones. Chris wasn't bad at all. He was a big help. We felt bad for him because he was so bored though. We heard today that the beach might not have power for 4 - 8 weeks. But, there should definitely be plenty of work out of this.

Stephen - I think I'll have panic attacks if I ever get caught in traffic again.

OK, just take care of yourselves and make the best of it. If you find yourself kissing random cars, let me know and I'll contact Dr Phil on your behalf...

Lorna - Will do. Thanks for looking out for me.

Update: Kara didn't come up to Dallas. Mom and them got 5 free rooms at the Hilton in Galveston and David assured them that one of the beach houses would be ready by then for them to stay (I think the houses all have generators.)

Yeah, Kara was a bit frustrated. She wasn't sleeping too well. I told her to get some tylenol PM and get a good night's sleep. Apparently they were all having a hard time sleeping casue when I talked to mom they passed the PM around and everyone slept well.

I'm still in shock about Marci. Do you know if Terry got a hold of Keren?

Zina - I'm glad they got some sleep and maybe they can all relax more at the beach. Regarding Marci, Bonnie did an e-mail to all the hussars and anyone she thought would know Marci. I can't believe it either.
