Friday afternoon, after dinner and a couple of little bottles of warm sake with a friend, I decided I needed to go to Sam's which was right across the highway from the restaurant. I asked my friend if he wanted to go with me and he declined which kind of bummed me out because I thought nothing sounded like more fun after a couple of little bottles of warm sake than buying toilet paper and giant tubs of bubble gum with a friend.
Excuse the interruption:
For the sake of this post and to preserve his anonymity, let's pretend my friend's last name is Bowman. You'll need that pretend information shortly.
Back to our story...
As I walked around Sam's hither and yon, I happened upon the book aisle where I spyed a novel about the Civil War. I've been strangely attracted to all things Civil War lately and almost bought the book because it was only $4.17. Since I already have four books started, I decided I didn't need another book to add to that lineup and put the book back on its display.
I pushed my cart a couple of feet down the aisle, stopped and went back and picked up the book and opened it to a random page. The first words my eyes landed on, in the middle of page 42, were...
I bought the book.

I find it very confusing when you use "sake" as rice wine and in it's more traditional, English meaning in the same post, for Pete's sake!
Steve
You sure that wasn't "bowmen"? Like, maybe it was in the Crusades? I never figure this stuff out.
I still think it's weird that you read his name right after parting company. :) Very... cosmic???
You didn't tell me it was The Widow of the South! My mom told me last night (right after our e-mail exchange), "I'm reading a new book called 'The Widow of the South.'" More weirdness!!!
When I first read this I misread it and thought about the store across the highway from Luby's.
I am so totally zonked, anyway...
I can't imagine anyone not wanting to go with you to Sam's, esp as they might have Cadbury mini eggs! I have only been in one so far and I had no idea that they had books too.
That is a strange first name ;-)
Must be a great book!
I can't think of a store across the highway from Luby's, except for a gas station. I will have to pay more attention.
You must have a weird magnet. This stuff happens to you a lot. It's cool.
Steve - Context, Steve. Context.
Old Horsetail - It wasn't "Bowman" at all. ;)
Jen - Oh, my! I started reading it yesterday and, on the second page, it mentions mockingbirds. I still have mockingbirds outside my window about every other night.
Susan - Last name...;)
Laura - I'm enjoying the book. Yeah, I can't think of a store across from Luby's either. Just hotel/motels.
Leslie - I definitely have a weird magnet plus the fact that I tend to notice this stuff more than most people. Some of it just reaches up and slaps me in the face though.
Maybe not exactly right across the highway... and maybe its good you gals don't know it ;-)
Susan - Oh, that place! You did say across the highway. I've heard of it but I've never been in there.
I haven't been in there either though I did try ;-)
42, huh?
You inspired me, Laurie!!!
After having a Cadbury fruit and nut bar for brunch, I went with my friend, Lisa to Costco and stocked up on tp, kiwis, hand lotion, real maple syrup, wipes, wild salmon patties and sheep's milk romano.
I am good for a LONG time now. The some of the kiwis will be frozen and/or become real ice cream, this is made with cream.
I spent $85 somehow. I thought I went everywhere but I missed the book section :-(
I would have liked to also buy new sonic toothbrush, rice cooker, crockpot with temperature probe, food saver, a duet washer and dryer... You have to be careful in there, I guess I am lucky they didn't have a portable dryer!
What a cool coincidink! BTW, I love watching the antics of the mockingbirds here. They're fun to watch!
Susan - Sam's/Costco has a sneaky way of making people spend buckets of money for their buckets o' stuff.
Se7en - I don't mind mockingbirds during the day. It's the nights that are killing me. They're annoying little bastards, day or night.
Give my regards to Mr Archer ;-)
Yeah I would have bought the book too Laurie.
should it have said "the incredibly tasty Bowman"? I just ordered that book from my online club and now I'll have to keep looking for that line.
and what kind of reader would cavil at 5 books?
Deek - ?
Peter - Yep, had to.
Lorna - The "incredibly tasty Bowman" would be exactly correct. When I got home, I actually discovered 7 books in progress if you count Lord of the Rings (Books 2 and 3) and The Beatles.
I LOVE synchronicities! They're like little calling cards from the Universe.
AMPlifier - Absolutely. They're addictive, too. Now, I want one every day. I'm greedy.
