Suspected Dallas Attempted Kidnapper Released

On my way home from work yesterday, I was listening to the news and I heard a story about people driving along the road in Dallas and witnessing a man trying to pull a boy into his car. (Here's the Dallas CBS station's story on it.) Three people stopped and surrounded the guy's car with their cars and waited for police to arrive. The man tried to tell the people that the little boy was lost but the terrified little boy just looked at them shaking his head no. Horrifying.

If that isn't frightening enough, the attempted kidnapper was RELEASED after posting $1,500 bail. He was charged with unlawful restraint. Years ago, I heard a comedian (Seinfeld maybe?) wonder why attempted murderers aren't treated the same as murderers. Just because an attempted murderer was incompetent or a bad shot, they should get a lesser sentence than someone who actually succeeded in killing someone?

Attempted kidnappers and attempted murderers should be put under the jail along with their more competent counterparts. The people who stopped after witnessing the attempted kidnapping risked their lives to rescue this little boy and the sicko is released from jail simply because he's an idiot and attempted to kidnap a child in broad daylight on a busy street?

Unbelievable.

There's sue a thin line between logic and justice---I learned that on Law and Order. I hope I would have acted like those people who passed and did something.

Thank goodness people stopped to help. That's crazy stuff.

That's a shame! I had to go online to see what the penalty for that here is and this is what I found:

Abduction, wrongful restraint or wrongful confinement for ransom
3. Whoever, with intent to hold any person for ransom, abducts or wrongfully restrains or wrongfully confines that person shall be guilty of an offence and shall be punished on conviction with death or imprisonment for life and shall, if he is not sentenced to death, also be liable to caning.

Now that would be fraky, to actually se something like that going down! And stopping it too!

I think that attempted criminals should get a more severe punishment, simply because they are lousy at their chosen vocation.

OK -- you just touched a nerve with me! That is such crap! Why does it seem like every sick violent, pervert gets a slap on the hands when any drug possession charge gets prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law? I'm not saying drugs are good or healthy, but I don't think someone should get sentenced to 20 years in prison for having a cannabis plant, while someone else gets 1 year for their second sexual assault of a child. (I read about the first somewhere and knew of the pervert.)

Aaaarrggh!

Thank god those people acted in that little boy's defense. If the guy had been speeding instead of kidnapping, he'd probably have gotten stopped by the police. (Color me jaded.)

Lorna - I thought the same thing. Would I have stopped. The first person to stop was a woman. I'm not sure if she was alone or not.

Leslie - Thank goodness.

Texas Gal - That's what they should do to this guy.

Se7en - I pity the fool if you were to stop.

Neal - I totally agree.

La Sirena - I say the same thing all the time. Drug addiction is a medical problem, not a criminal one.

I'm so glad that those people stopped. It gives me hope to hear about things like that.

Comfort Addict - I hope I would do the same thing. Actually, I know I would.

I like the caning idea, only do it with a baseball bat - Casino style.

Yeah that should fix things.

Grimm - Amen to that.
