Walking

I will be joining a few people I know in attempting to walk 10,000 steps a day starting tomorrow (if all parties have their pedometers by that time).

I put my pedometer on yesterday afternoon and walked around the neighborhood for 30 minutes and only walked 3500 steps. At that point, I thought I was screwed as far as the 10,000 steps thing goes. However, after wearing it for only an hour this morning, I already had 1,000 steps and it hasn't been a particularly active morning for me.

I might not win the challenge but I, at least, don't think I'm going to embarrass myself. I plan to keep a running tally down there on my sidebar.

Update: End of "test day" - 7,127 steps (without walking the neighborhood)

Last year, I got one of those pedometers in a box of Special K. At the time I was living in a 4-strey house, and I had no problem hitting 10,000, especially as my memory is going, now I'd be lucky to hit 300.

What an excellent idea.

I don't mind walking, just so long as I don't have to get off the sofa! Good luck with the challenge!

How many miles is 10K steps? Sounds beyond me.

Just check your pedometer for accuracy. Peg and I got the cheap wallyworld models and got wildly varying results. I wore them both one day and there was a 3000 step discrepancy. Counting a couple of hundred steps should give you a pretty good idea of how well it works. If I can just find mine, I'll join you in the effort. I ain't publishin' no stinkin' tally, though.

Lorna - I bet you walk a lot in the city, probably more than you realize.

Jen - I hope so. :)

Se7en - :)

Laura - About 2000 steps in a mile.

Pokerboss - I bought mine online based on reviews. It seems to be doing a good job so far. It's an Omron.

Not having anything to do with walking. Did you ever find your mouse pad?

Yes, did your mouse pad ever turn up? And where is the tally on your sidebar? I can't count to 2000. Have a nice day!

Yeah Laurie!

Don't worry there is only one person who might embarrass himself ;-)

That's a great idea. However I don't think I would get any work done. I sit at a computer all day. I'd be so concerned with getting my 10,000 steps in that it would be impossible to sit behind my desk until I was sure I was going to make my goal for the day. Good Luck! Is there a prize?

Mom and Laura - Never found it.

Susan - I'm pretty sure he'll kick our butts.

Texas Gal - No prize. Just trying to make a decent showing.

Laurie- Maybe he will for a week or two but he won't sustain it.

Susan - I'm not a good guesser.

Why in the world can I NOT get that damn song "10,000 miles" out of my head?

Thanks alot.

Good luck, I often wonder just how many steps I take a day. Probably around 20.

Grimm - You should get a pedometer. It's a surprisingly good motivator. At least I was surprised.
