Nagin Re-Elected (I Guess the Candy Man Can)

Ray Nagin has been re-elected as Mayor of New Orleans.

As we were driving into Houston last week for dad's surgery, there was a huge billboard on Interstate 10 as you enter the city pushing for Nagin's re-election. (I bet Landrieu wishes he would have thought of that.) It was very surreal and, for a minute, I thought I had taken a wrong turn at Albuqueque and had driven the wrong direction down I-10 when we left Beaumont.

Personally, I like to think Nagin got re-elected because of the poster I originally posted here in January '06...

Let's just hope he learns from his previous mistakes. BUT if God forbid another big hurricane hits NOLAs again....they have no one to blame but themselves.

TOO SAD!

Not exactly a landslide, but the people have spoken.

I don't think Nagin has been a bad mayor, even if he has stepped into a big pile every now and again. The good news is that he's not a crook like so many of our past and present well-spoken politicians here. Edwin Edwards is still in jail and he always said the right thing at the right time. (And he's in Texas, now that I think about it!) So I guess it's another "Count your blessings" point of view for me.

Peace,

Tim

P.S.
I love chocolate--I'm drinking chocolate milk right now and looking forward to New Orleans being all chocolate like Nagin promised! I'm keep having that Homer Simpson fantasy of the "Land of Chocolate."

I saw that he won, how did that happen? I should run for mayor of the south pole.

Zina - Let's hope they know something we don't know.

Tim - Can't go wrong with Homer Simpson. Good luck to all of you!

Neal - That sounds like a great idea! Maybe you could run on a caramel campaign.

Riddle me this....The feature film "Noble Things" has signed top country music singer Lee Ann Womack to play a lead role in the movie, said Brett Moses, screenwriter/ producer/ actor/ director on the film.

"Nobel Things" is based on a screenplay by Moses, a former Vidor resident, and his partner Dan McMellen. Preproduction begins in early June. Principal photography will begin July 5 and end Aug. 8. Postproduction will begin by Aug. 20. "We hope to have something done by the end of the year," Moses said regarding a first cut of the film.

"About 60 percent of our location are confirmed," Moses said. "Most are in Jefferson, Hardin and Liberty counties, and the city of Beaumont."

Yea, I was in Atlanta and there were tons of Nagin billboards.

In a suburb of Atlanta, on a busy - but not that busy - road, there was a re-elect Nagin billboard. Very confusing as there are a lot of hispanics in the area but not a lot of NOLA people.

Laurie, your billboard is funny. I do like my chocolate nutty. Nagin said the wrong thing from time to time, and apparently intends to continue with that, given his "red light district" remarks in his acceptance speech, but I agree with Tim that he wasn't a bad mayor. Honestly, I like the fact that he says what's on his mind, but what do I know? Cynthia McKinney is my congresswoman! :D

I'm only an hour away from NOLA and have been following this mayoral race very closely. I am not a Nagin fan, but I don't know much about Mitch Landrieu (sp?) either. So. (shrugs) I do think that Nagin is a business man that can, at times, get things done. But the K word was more than he could handle, I think. All the blame cannot be placed on the Captain of Chocolate City, though. Blanco and FEMA had their hand in the chaos as well.

I also think it was pretty presumptuous of him (Nagin) to put Baton Rouge's River Center as the main evacuation shelter on his "new and improved evacuation plan" without first consulting the City-Parish of East Baton Rouge. I'm sure we would accomodate any NOLA evacuees again, but dang. We haven't even repaired the million-plus dollars damage from the K evacuees at the River Center.

Anonymous - There was an article about that in the Beaumont Enterprise yesterday. It said Tracy Byrd was also going to be in the movie.

Pikkel and SO - Nagin gets around doesn't he?

Sophmom - All politicians are crazy if you ask me.

Jen - Spoken like a true Baton Rouger...Baton Rougian...Baton Rougette?

R - On the back of the building? I guess they were going after the pimp, ho, crackhead vote, too. Nagin's smarter than we thought.
