*!&>!#F*(&U*(&...

It finally happened. The inevitable. I was pulling into my birthday luncheon Saturday and as I was looking for a parking spot to my right, I noticed a car slowly pulling out to my left. I was close enough that she should have seen me and too close for me to backup out of her way, so I blew my horn.

I blew my horn, then blew it again, then laid on the horn for a full four or five seconds. I want you to count five seconds so you can realize how long and loud I blew my horn. Thinking she'd hear me and stop, I didn't shift into reverse to try to move out of her way. BUMP!

Dammit.

Luckily, she also had a Toyota, so it just did a bumper car thing. I pulled into a parking spot. As I walked toward her, she rolled down her passenger side window and SMILED and said, "Did I hurt anything? I was on the phone. "

Then, she smiled again as though by smiling I would then say, "Oh, well, stuff happens. You have a great day, now."

I just glared at her, speechless.

She smiled again and said, "I was on the phone. I really shouldn't do that."

By now, Bonnie had come out of the restaurant because everyone inside had heard my horn blast. Everyone INSIDE the restaurant had heard my horn. Psycho Telephone Driver, however, never heard a thing.

I looked at her and said, "No, you shouldn't do that."

I turned and walked toward Bonnie and said, in a not nice tone, "She was on the PHONE!"

I noticed out of the corner of my eye that Psycho Telephone Driver slowed down when she heard me say that to Bonnie. For a moment I thought, "Great, I'm going to get my @$$ kicked at my own birthday party."

Too bad she pulled away. It's fun to think about my whole family driving up and having a nice little Cajun type "conversation" with her about telephones and driving.

SMILING? She didn't say she was sorry? She didn't get out and see if you were okay? Did you get her info? I would have done it just to scare her.

I am imagining that you did not wake up the next day unable to move, but it could have happened.

I do use the phone when I drive sometimes but always with a head set and NEVER when I am backing out of a parking space or anything at all difficult. Mainly on long uncrowded highway drives, and I stop immediately if there is traffic or anything.

I NEVER send text messages while driving, but I have seen people do that! I use voice dial only.

Why didn't you just throw down one of those law firm business cards? Title doesn't matter . . . don't worry about the parking lot brawl; my money's on you.

Susan - I went to lunch with a good friend of mine and she sent a text message while she was driving. I will not ride with her again. Ever. I will drive and she can text her little fingers off.

George - George, if it wasn't my birthday party, I'd have probably gone off.
