WalMart in Beaumont no longer changes watch batteries unless you bought the watch from them or as the girl behind the counter said, "...unless it's a WalMart watch." I don't think I've ever actually seen a "Walmart watch." I wonder if it's like a Mickey Mouse watch but with Sam Walton's arms pointing to the semi-accurate time. Maybe it has a little alarm to let you know when the lawn furniture goes on sale.
Nederland Jewelry (in front of Hobby Lobby), however does change watch batteries for $10 including the battery. $10 seems a little excessive to me, but they were nice about it and a lot quicker than the poor bastards at WalMart who used to change my watch batteries.

If you have a JC Penney in Beaumont, they used to change watch batteries for a reasonable price.
I am taking a couple watches over to Penney's to change the batteries, I will let you know how it goes.
Here Target used to change watch batteries until a few years ago, when they started changing batteries only for watches bought at Target, now they won't change anything. We used to have a Timex store that changed batteries, but they are gone. I miss them, they were the best :-(
I have a life time battery change card for my work watch at a jeweler in a mall, but the last time I used it the jerks fractured the band at the clasp!
So now I am using my neighborhood jeweler to find a new clasp/band.
Susan - Even though the people at Nederland's Jewelers were VERY nice, I would definitely feel less intimidated at Penney's. Being surrounded by all those diamonds, Tag Heuers and Rolexes made me feel a little nervous.
I just called Penney's here and it costs about $11.50, the neighborhood jewelry's costs $12.00. However, Penney's has a battery card so every 5th battery is free.
I have a few 50 cents garage sale fashion watches that I am hopefully going to change myself as soon as I find the small eyeglass screw drivers.
Susan - I'm going to check to see if Penney's has that program here.
I put new batteries in the garage sales watches myself, batteries have been $3.49 each and most of mine seem to use #377. Got them at Walgreen's and Target. I borrow an eyeglass screwdriver to pop the backs off. It was super easy, not sure why I didn't do that in the first place. My citizen takes a special tool so I will take that in.
Unfortunately 2 of the bands needed replacing, and 1 would light up but nothing else with the new battery so I have an extra non-#377 battery.
Got a new red strap for my mickey mouse watch that cost $9. One more strap to get, then I am all watched up ;-)
Now I have 7 wearable watches! 8 when I replace the last band.
Laurie---give up watch-wearing. It's amazing how easy it is to find out the time, and how your body sort of knows anyway.

Lorna - I did go without a watch for about a year and didn't really miss it. I'm not embarrassed to say that my decision to wear a watch again was a fashion decision. I saw a watch that I just couldn't live without.
Changing a Watch Battery in Fort Worth. When I go to Walmart to have a watch battry changed - it was "of course" bought at Walmart regardless of where it was purchased. This makes everything much simpler for the Walmart employee and I get my battery changed. :>)
Anonymous - I considered that, but I have this weird compulsion about not telling the truth, even in the simplest of situations. I just know that a security guard would have bodily dragged me out of Walmart. Oh, the humiliation to be kicked out of Walmart.
