It's Time for NUNS Again

There is a tradition in the Catholic church of giving something up for Lent. As I mentioned in a post last year, I don't expect giving things up for Lent to get me into Heaven but I'm pretty sure it can't hurt either.

Last year several other people (including fellow blogger Aisha) and I decided to give up unnecessary shopping during Lent (3/1 - 4/15). We called our group NUNS for No Unnecessary Needless Shopping.

Feel free to join us. It's harder than it sounds.

  1. I'm going to give stuff up for Lent with Brian this year, even though I'm not Catholic. He's a good boy.

  4. Since I have a shopping phobia, I say here here! I'll join. Does internet shopping count?

Last year I gave up pop. Man was that a mistake!

  5. NUNS . . huh? I like that idea. I always have problems deciding what to give up. I may try it.

  6. I always try to do things that will improve me spiritually. I attend mass at the Cathedral at noon on Wednesdays. I try to do one unexpected random act of kindness each day that will brighten someone else's day and will hopefully, in turn, cause a chain reaction of kindness. Poodles

  10. Finally! Something I can give up that will make my husband happy...last year I gave up sex. :) KIDDING! Wasn't officially Catholic last year, just a good ol' southern Baptist -Oops! No, No Unnecessary Needless Shopping is a worthy sacrifice, and extremely hard to adhere to as well. I will adopt it and shall try my best.

digituki = did i get impertinently touched under kindly intentions?

  11. Jen - You're a good girlfriend.

Lorna - Oops, I guess I didn't make that part clear. You have two weeks to make up lost time until you start again.

    Peter - From what magazine?

Ed - Internet shopping absolutely counts.

Renee - It's really a good thing to give up. Every time you start to buy a little something, it reminds you of the season.

Poodles - I had no idea you were such a good person. ;)

Aisha - It looks like we've started a trend!

    Baby Sis - Poor Peter.

Old Horsetail - I would say giving up body parts should hold you on the Lent thing for years to come.

Mrs. F - Good for you! I'll do an update post halfway through Lent to check on everybody.
