I just saw on the news that there was a 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Honduras a short while ago and there are tsunami concerns.
My first thought was, "Oh, my."
My second thought was, "Wait. A tsunami in the Caribbean or Gulf of Mexico could affect...me."
When I think about tsunamis, I think about Thailand, Japan, Godzilla...you know...not here. Can seawalls and levees hold back a tsunami? How far inland would a tsunami go? I suppose that depends on where and how strong the quake is, but I want details. I want charts and graphics. I want warning.
The only good thing about hurricanes is that we coastal residents usually have plenty of warning before landfall. Earthquake? That's a California thing. Tsunami? Not here.
Crap.
I saw this on Yahoo News. The BBC NEWS at 1 O'clock didn't mention it. Does that mean the danger's past, I wonder, or they are too obsessed with other things?
ReplyDeleteI saw that too. But apparently nobody really cares. After Ike, I'd rather not think about something like that.
ReplyDeleteI hate storm season.
ReplyDeleteEgad, I'm with you. Why do I need something ELSE to worry about? Hurricane season starts NEXT WEEK and I have no plywood. It sucks to live near the coast except when it doesn't, which is most of the time.
ReplyDeletePeace,
Tim
I thought of my best friend, who lives on the Islad of Roatan, 39 miles from the epicenter. I havent' heard from her yet and I'm worried.
